A young girl on the beach approaches the camera. She’s wearing an open sweater with a colourful t-shirt, black pants, white sneakers and a shoulder bag. Several houses and a few trees and utility poles can be seen behind her. The sun shines and a few clouds are present in the blue sky.
Shana St-Onge
Well...Hello! My name is Shana, and here, here we’re in Sept-Îles Bay. Well, we're more towards the Uashat reserve, since Sept-Îles is more that way; Uashat, more this way.
We're, uh... I'd say we're, uh, close behind, uh, behind my aunt's house. My Aunt Anne-Marie.
And what you see there is the community hall. And, there are lots of activities there as, as you know.
Here at the bay, uh, it's another place I like. With my aunt, we sometimes take a walk in... There's a little path here, on the edge, the edge of the trees there. You can... You can see it leading... that it starts and continues that way.
And, uh.... The island over there, well, it's... Yeah, we can't say it's an island. It's not an island. It's a point. It's an aluminum plant.
Shana walks towards the water pointing out into the distance.
And, uh, the boat that's over there, where the lady is over there, past the lady, those are boats which... Well, they’re boats for mineral, I'd actually say. They go get...They go get what's in the territory and bring it back just about anywhere.
And otherwise, the bay was really.... Well, it was a place where the Innu... where many people would set off for offshore fishing.
Shana turns towards the shore, her back to sea, pointing in a certain direction.
And now, there's... There's a wharf over there. A wharf where...Well, there are cruise ships that are... that come from just about anywhere, tourists...
The young girl walks towards the camera and then past it to indicate where she’s talking about.
Yeah. Anne-Marie also told me that the campground, the road you see over there... there’s a campground. Well, the road that leads to the campground that, I don’t think you can camp there anymore, but.... When the Innu came here and they had no houses, well, they camped there. And everything you needed was there; there were showers, there were toilets. It was kind or luxurious for, uh, for an Indian. And...[Laughter] So, uh...
She takes her cell phone out of her bag and drops something on the ground which she picks up.
Oops!
So that's about it. Well, if my aunt had been with me, we would have gone for a walk right along over there. I really like it when she tells me stories.
It's cool over there too! You can make a campfire over by the cross. There's a big tire. That's right; a big truck tire. It’s cool
So, I really like that places. It's mellow! I don't know if you’ve noticed, but the breeze is nice. How wonderful!
She cups her face with her hands. And then she looks all around her.
So, uh, that's it. Thank you. Goodbye!
She walks away with her back to the camera, leaving the film location.
