Odanak
As part of its program to revitalize traditional practices, the Musée des Abénakis in Odanak organized a drum-making activity. The demand was so high that two groups had to be formed. The workshops are led by Jean-Paul Lamirande, a specialist in skin work, a skill that his grandfather passed on to him. He generously teaches the participants how to cut the skin, prepare the babiche that will be used to stretch it on the drum and create the stick that will make the drum resonate. He guides them through each step, as someone once did for his grandfather.
